Are You Teaching Basic Writing Skills?
Even though our students think texting is the same as writing, we know differently. We need to have the best materials to teach the mechanics of writing as well as the art of writing. Preschool teachers use shaving cream, fingerpaint, playdough, and other sensory materials to strengthen fine motor skills for letter writing. You can use stencils, tactile letters and alphabet motor boards to teach actual letter formation. Once students have that foundation, they can free their minds to think about writing for a purpose. Set up a writing area, provide journals, story prompts, and activities that teach basic writing skills and you'll have a room full of authors before you know it!
